Chocolate Covered Strawberries Recipe

Chocolate covered strawberries are so delicious! Every time I see them I have to buy them, but they can be so expensive! Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries and any other special occasion or holiday these are always the go-to, and I have seen grocery stores bump up their prices four four strawberries for $12.99!

These are so easy to make, and also one of the most pricey holiday appetizers and desserts at the store! Chocolate covered strawberries just have a couple of ingredients, and they are such a crowd pleasing appetizer, and definitely pack a presentation too!

So, long story short I learned how to make them and made this easy chocolate covered strawberries recipe. Seriously, it is way too easy, and it is also fun!

Remember, when buying your chocolate, baking chocolate chips work best. Buy a quality chocolate that will melt easy, I like Gharardelli Baking Chips, Lilly’s Baking Chips personally.

I enjoy semisweet chocolate the best. You can also use milk chocolate, white chocolate and bittersweet chocolate for dipping strawberries.

How to Melt Chocolate for Dipping

For every one cup of chocolate chips, use 1 tbsp of shortening. I used Crisco. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time. Take out of the microwave and stir for another 30 seconds. The chocolate WILL continue to melt! Put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds and repeat with stirring.

My microwave takes two thirty-second tries and it is all melted and ready. Yours might be different. Make sure to stir the chocolate before you put it back in again. I have made the mistake of being impatient and have burned the chocolate.

Ingredients

  • strawberries
  • chocolate chips semisweet, milk, white, bittersweet
  • shortening ex. Crisco
  • parchment or wax paper

Instructions

  • Wash and dry your strawberries. Grab all your ingredients and set your station up.
  • Pour one cup of chocolate chips and one tablespoon of shortening into a microwave dish. Microwave for 30 seconds at a time. Then take out of microwave and stir. Chocolate will STILL melt while you stir! Depending on your microwave, put the chocolate in for another 30 seconds. My microwave takes two 30 second rounds, yours might take more or less. Be careful not to burn the chocolate!
  • Grab the strawberry from the base and dip it in the melted chocolate. You can use a spoon also to get the upper part by the leaves to make it nice and even. Place on parchment paper and repeat.

WHITE CHOCOLATE

  • For the white chocolate, melt it the same way as the chocolate above. Then pour it into a Ziploc bag, tilted so that you have a little corner tip of the bag clean. (See picture). Then, with some scissors clip a tiny hole on the corner. Pour white chocolate from the very small hole and drizzle on your strawberries.
  • Refrigerate an hour and serve!
