My kids are picky eaters who do not always think that eating nutritious food is fun. I know that if I left it up to my kids, they would live off of cookies and candy all day! However, feeding them nutritious foods from sustainably-conscious brands while making it fun is a priority of mine.

Organic Food For Kids

My top priority is to provide foods with organic quality ingredients. For bread, instead of plain bread, I   Oroweat Organic White made with Whole Wheat Bread. Here in Texas, I use Oroweat Organic bread, but you may find the same great-tasting sustainable product under the Brownberry Organic or Arnold Organic brands, depending on your location.

This plant-based bread is bursting with nutrients and flavor and the brand holds itself to a higher standard which I love. Their Organic for Kids White made with Whole Wheat bread is also soft and smooth in texture, which is a mom-win for me.

1. The first tip is to make it fun!

Oroweat Organic White made with Whole Wheat Bread features Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Seeing this packaging made my daughter immediately interested since she loves these characters. Her interest in the bread made it easier for me to make her a delicious lunch! She was eager to have a slice because she saw her favorite characters on the bread.

2. Get your kids involved in the kitchen.

Children are naturally curious, so use that to your advantage! They can wash fruit or open up the refrigerator and grab something that you need to prepare their meal. If your child is too young, you can help and explain what it is that you are doing and ask them questions about what they think about it.

Educate your children on products.

Another way to get kids involved is to educate them on the products you are using. For example, Oroweat Organic White made with Whole Wheat Bread is sustainably baked using renewable wind energy. It was the perfect time to learn about wind energy and how they honor the beauty of nature!

3. Get creative.

Making cute designs, like the one here that we made together, made her more open to eating it. Disney’s Mickey Mouse (or any other cookie) cutters are a great way to make a fun design on bread and are very easy for children to participate in. It was so much fun to make creative designs on bread and a great way to serve a nutritious option too!

4. Work on meals together.

When you incorporate children in the process or meal planning and creating, it gives them a sense of purpose and pride. They are also more open to enjoy the meal they created too! This is a great way to sneak in some nutritious foods as well.

5. Offer new foods with foods your children like.

My daughter used to hate blueberries. Since we incorporated them into making the “eyes” she was more open to trying it out. It takes repetition to get your child first used to seeing it on the plate before trying it out, so be patient and know the day will come when they will take their first bite!

What a fun little kit! I started making food art to help introduce my kids to new foods they wouldn’t otherwise try if served plain on a plate. Now they make their own food art and have lots of fun doing so.
