Family Day- Austin Aquarium

Are there any places in your city that you have always wanted to visit, but simply haven’t yet? Well, for us it was the Austin Aquarium. It’s been in town for a couple of years now and we have always said we would go, but life just gets in the way sometimes and we haven’t. Well, we decided over Thanksgiving break to go, and I’m so glad we finally did! 🐙😊🐠

A Fun Day, Play For All Abilities Park

One thing I didn’t anticipate when I became a mom was how much we would be going to different parks! While we have a neighborhood park in our neighborhood, it is not toddler friendly. The slides are for big kids, the swings are not the toddler swings, the play bridges don’t have guard rails and in general it’s for bigger kids than my son who is just shy of two years old. So, we like to go to different parks. One park that I have been hearing about is a Play for All Abilities Park. These types of parks have activities for children of all ages, including even special activity areas for children with disabilities. The closest one was about 45 minutes away from our home, but I decided to take our son there anyway since it was this park’s grand reopening.

Dear Overwhelmed Mom, You’re Not Alone

Last night’s dishes still in the sink, laundry that’s been in the washer for three days, clothes that were supposed to be hung up in the closet but instead are sitting in a perfect pile in the entry room and a home that would make an episode of Hoarders look nice and tidy. You don’t want anyone visiting because you feel like such a failure. You are exhausted, overwhelmed and you think you don’t have it together. At the end of the day, you creep into bed exhausted from the hustle and bustle of keeping tiny humans alive, changing diapers, making lunches, reading the same favorite book for what felt like 30 times in one day. Tearing yourself apart because you burned dinner while you were saving your toddler from eating a new piece of god knows what they found while reaching underneath the couch. Depressed because you haven’t showered in three days but are too exhausted to give a shit. I see you, mama. I know how you feel. I truly do because I have been there too.

Garlic Creamy Lemon Shrimp Pasta

Thursdays are my late nights during the week. My husband is an instrucor and teaches so when he comes home on Thursdays, he is super hungry! More than normal. This is usually the time when I try to cook healthy, but also cook hearty since I know I’m feeding a hungry man who is having dinner at 9:30pm. I wanted to make a quick meal but I also was craving something creamy and lemony. I decided to make a garlic, creamy lemon shrimp pasta. It was a hit! Both my husband and his mini me ate every bite on their plate, so I wanted to share this easy to make recipe with you. Enjoy! ☺️

My Dollar General Mini Haul!

So I have been dabbling in the world of shopping smarter and couponing for a little bit. I’ve been paying attention more to sales since we are officially in the holiday season. Who doesn’t love a great deal?! This morning after I made breakfast for our son and I, we went to Dollar General. If you have one close by you, GO! For the next 3 days, their Libby’s canned goods are Buy One, Get One Free! They are normally .80cents each, but right now you can get them for .40cents each! Stock up time!! 😁🙌🏻

I also bought some silver cloth napkin holders. $2 for 4 of them! I have a table that seats 8 so I grabbed two sets. I have been online window shopping for them for a couple weeks now and I have seen them for $2EACH minimum! A set of 4 similar to these were $20 at Target. This was a steal of a deal. I also got pipe cleaners for an upcoming busy day learning project for my toddler and a gold glitter door wreath holder because…glitter! Lol. 😂💛✨

My total was $12.10. Not bad! I didn’t use any coupons, although I looked all day yesterday for Libby’s coupons, I couldn’t find any. Again, the Libby’s deal runs only through Saturday, so go before they sell out! The cashier told me 10 minutes before there was a lady who was buying cases of them, cases.

My Couponing Journey

Once we decided as a family that I would stay home for the first couple years to be with our son, I knew that my financial footprint on our household would have to adjust. I will say that I am lucky to have an opportunity to even stay at home at all, and that many new mothers (or fathers) don’t have that opportunity. Although it was something that took a lot of thought and was not an easy choice, it was the best decision for our family.

Family Day- Pumpkin Fest @Elgin Christmas Tree Farm

It’s fall season again!! Pumpkins, fall scented candles, cool breezes and holidays jumping at us every month! It’s my favorite season of the entire year. So we all come across fall checklists and one of the ones always there is a fall festival. We live in a small town so we are lucky enough that we have a Pumpkin Festival hosted by the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm not that far from where we live. We went this weekend and took our son who is a year and a half old. We went for the first time last year with him, so we are trying to make some new family traditions! I never thought family traditions would be fun, but I really enjoyed myself. This is how our day went.

My Father. The Untold Story

I’ve never really talked about my father much, my story of him has always been one I have had to bottle up inside.  My father is a topic that no one truly knows the entire story on. Throughout the years I was always told to not speak of him, to be ashamed of him, embarrassed of him, and to not seek him whatsoever. He was always a dark cloud over me, and carrying his name throughout many years of my life always gave me a sense of abandonment, a feeling of distance, and a flame of resentment and anger in my soul. I’m choosing not to live in silence anymore, so this is my story about my father. It is the uncut, untold story told by his only child, his one and only daughter, me.

Why My Sanity is Saved on Ladies Night

Just about every Wednesday evening I have ladies night with a couple girlfriends of mine. I meet them after work at a restaurant we pick and we hang out for a couple of hours and blow off some steam, catch up on what’s going on in our lives and generally talk about anything and everything until it’s time to go home. We have done this for over two years now, on a pretty consistent basis. Initially when we started, all three of us worked in the same industry, and many times it was about work stories, but when I had my son and my life plans changed, my stories became different.

Counting Age Past 12 Months…By Months

So I am a mother who has stopped counting how many months my child is past 12 months. Even before I was a mother, saying “oh my child is 26 months or 17 months” has always sounded weird to me. Call me crazy!! I just feel like past a year old, it’s just easier to say “oh they are 2 years old and 3 years old.”  I know that for medical reasons or specific reasons some people do need that information, but for an everyday casual conversation, in MY opinion it’s a little overkill. I know I will get flack for it, but I’m entitled to my opinion, so there it is. 😉

Hope you like the video! 😁
